The Puyallup Tribe of Indians is seeking attorneys to join a qualified contractor pool for public defense legal services in Puyallup Tribal Court through a rolling RFQ process that does not guarantee work or employment but may lead to conflict counsel assignments or, subject to Tribal Council approval, a primary public defender contract. Services include representing clients in criminal and child welfare matters, handling proceedings from arraignment through sentencing, advising clients on tribal court procedures and rights, communicating with clients and the court, and maintaining compliance with court rules and professional obligations. Applicants must be licensed and in good standing with the Washington State Bar Association, with criminal defense and dependency experience preferred; familiarity with tribal court practice and Puyallup culture is valued but not required. Applications must be submitted as a single PDF to Lois.Boome@PuyallupTribe-nsn.gov with the subject line “Public Defense Proposal” and must include the name of the attorney performing the work, a resume and three references, disclosures of actual or potential conflicts involving the Tribe or Tribal Court, and disclosures of any ethics proceedings within the past five years. Applicants are responsible for confirming receipt, proposal costs will not be reimbursed, and compensation is expected to be approximately $15,000 for full-capacity engagements, though structures may vary depending on the assignment and negotiations with the Tribe.
